6,634 people killed
Between 2018 and 2024 more than 6,634 people have been confirmed killed in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon by either local armed groups or military forces. The unreported figures could be much higher.
The Anglophone crisis is the most important problem faced by people in these two regions of Cameroon. Rape, maiming, kidnapping, and killing are all happening on a daily basis. The population has adapted to the new violent status quo by incurring significant economic costs. Returning the population to safety should be the priority of any actor trying to maximize well-being in these locations.
The social services provided by NGOs and humanitarian bodies cannot meaningfully compensate or mitigate the loss created on a daily basis by this conflict.
We call on all parties to end this crippling violence immediately and continue supporting whatever objectives they may have through peaceful means.
The deliberate killing of children should be treated as a criminal act and not part of any bellicose activity. Perpetrators, donors, and supervisors of the deliberate killing of children should be held accountable by any available legal system.
